    DUI in Oklahoma

There is no excuse for repeated DUI's if Oklahoma would use the ignition interlock system.  This system goes on the ignition of the person's car and will not allow it to start if the person has alcholol on their breath.  It is being used in other states to stop repeated offences.  You could contact  former Tulsan, Dr. William Rauch. His family is still in Tulsa. He is responsible for the work done on this system.  He will gladly talk to any legislator about this system and give statistics concerning the lives saved.

    Re: DUI in Oklahoma

If the Courts would just punish DUIs according to the laws we already have instead of bargaining with the driver, we wouldn't have to change anything.  Example:  I was recently hit by a drunk driver who had 3 underage kids in the car.  The driver was beligerent and left the kids and car sitting there to go home and get driver's license and insurance verification.  The police had to go to the house and get the driver and bring him back to the scene.  There was no driver's license or insurance.  It was discovered that this was the driver's second DUI.  The charges have been reduced to first-time DUI and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident since the driver pled 'not guilty' and is asking for jury trial.  The Courts do not want to spend the money on a trial so they are agreeing to a lesser sentence and the driver will get off with very little jail time, fines, and maybe community service.  Use the laws we have and put this driver in jail without a jury trial!!!!!

Handle it just like a drug offense.  Take the license for a year, conficate the car and sell it.  DUI will stop then.

But I agree...enforce the law we have.  But stay within the budget!
