    School Starting and Summer Heat

Well, TPS goes back to school Monday, August 11.  I am wondering how many inside days we will have because of the summer heat.  Remember the good ol' days when we started after Labor Day?  Because school is starting, several pools are losing their lifeguards. This means they are closing before Labor Day.  No place for the kids to go and cool off.

What do you think:  Should school start this early?  Should we be able to send kids outside in the heat for recess?  If they were at home, would they be outside?  What about school sports which are practicing out in this heat?  What was it like for you as a kid?

Probably wouldn't be an issue if a certain someone had not been given a 400,000 dollar bonus. That money could have been used for supplies, books, repairs. Just another reason I vote no on bond issues.

I remember when I was in grade school, middle school, high school, very few of the classrooms had air conditioning.  Only the rooms that had a bunch of computers were kept cool, because evidently the computers are worth more than the students.  They could open windows, and then the screaming mimis would start up when a bee flew in.

No, I don't think school should start when the weather is still hot.  That makes no sense whatsoever to me.  I know we have no control over the weather, but starting school up in August is just stupid, IMO.

I tell ya what .. kids now a days are just pampered beyond reason ....  We just sweat if it was hot.  Air conditioning in school??  That was a luxury that wasn't used in schools.  We could have fans, but no air conditioning.  Frankly.. I wish school was held year round - even in the summers.  It would keep kids out of trouble and they might actually learn what they are supposed to learn.

Well if ya read what I wrote, air conditioning wasn't a luxury we had, either.  LOL  The computers had it, but not us.  I'm no kid anymore, but I still insist on air conditioning when it gets hot.  Its as necessary to me as food, air and broadband internet.
