    Forgotten storm victims outside Picher

(CRAIG COUNTY, Okla.) May 16 - The Federal Emergency Management Agency is working to find a location for storm victims in Picher to get federal assistance.

But a neighboring county is still waiting to hear if any federal aid is coming their way.

Northeastern Craig County is about 30 miles away and storm victims there say they’re feeling somewhat forgotten.

The sheriff is calling it the secret tornado.  It's the same tornado that hit Picher.  But because of the great loss in Picher people in Craig County are just now getting help.

The Red Cross heard from the sheriff's office and were the first ones out here to help, with hot meals and money.  “These victims matter.  We don't want anybody falling through the cracks", said Hope Margarit with the Red Cross.

The Red Cross has helped about a dozen families in this corner of the county, where most homes have been turned inside out.

The number for FEMA is 1-800-621-FEMA. We also have a link on our website, just click on links and reminders.

If you are a storm victim, or know a storm victim who needs help from the Red Cross, call 918-831-1109.

What is really sad is that there are so many disasters going on that people aren't sensitive to it anymore. Not to say that more are happening than ever before, but that it is televised and communicated better than ever. It is sad to know that most people are like "Oh, there goes another few thousand people in a cyclone." or "Another bus load of kids blew up..." Sad...

That's very true, Tega. People need to put themselves in place of the victims to obtain the reality of such an event.

They were telling me at Picher this weekend that they had a problem with looters all week long. I couldn't believe how anyone could be that sorry of a person to do such a thing. I'm sure the thought of guns being tossed around everywhere brought out all the crime junkies.

It is a sad reality, even in the face of the worse disasters, there are those disgusting pieces of human debris who will run to take advantage of an opportunity to rob and steal from people who have basically just lost everything they own. Shooting is too good for these slime wads.

I'd guess it was from the homes because the town of Picher itself hardly has anything there that anyone would want to steal from.  I can imagine people around there were looking for guns.  Old ones too.  I'd like to know about some of the surrounding towns.  How'd they fare?  I mean Welch is at least 20 miles away if I remember right.  What about Commerce?  Miami?  Quapaw?  Wyandotte? BlueJacket? Fairland?  All of those are near Picher.  I guess they didn't get much.
