Re: PSO files to increase fuel factor

So does this make 4 or 5 rate increases sofar this year?

    - Rate increase to cover AEP bad investments on plants that werent built,
    - Rate "adjustment" for 5 years to cover profits lost during the ice storm,
    - Rate increase to cover the expense of public energy conservation programs,
    - and this this one.  Is there another I left out?

A rate increase on the average of one a month should be ringing some alarm bells somewhere, but apparently not with our Corporation Commission.

Re: PSO files to increase fuel factor

The number of kilowatt hours (kwh) of energy you use multiplied by the fuel rate per kwh. This charge covers the COST OF FUEL used to generate your electricity. That is the cost of natural gas used to create electricity. We are allowed to pass the charge from the gas company on to the customer but not allowed to make a profit from that charge. So, as the gas company raises the price, it effects your bill as well.

Until the recent raises it was the first in 10 years. The CC doesn't always approve it for the amount asked.

Re: PSO files to increase fuel factor

If the proposed change in the FCA is approved, residential customers who use 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) a month would expect to see the fuel cost portion of their bills increase by approximately 40 percent, or an additional $17.50 per month. Increases in the fuel cost portion of the bills of other customer classes will range from 40 percent to 48 percent. Actual impact on the electric bill will vary from person to person. Just like at the fuel pump, the gas companies can raise the rates on natural gas. Since this is one of the resources that we use to generate electricity, we are stuck paying it.

Anything they ask for has to be approved. Sometimes it takes a while. I haven't heard any retractions yet.
