Does anyone else find it amusing that the candidates are saying they want a gas tax holiday for the summer?  Correct me if I am wrong, but won't they still be campaigning this summer?  It sounds great in theory, but if you want to impress me...lets get the prices back down to the $1.51 they were 8 years ago.

  That won't happen until we get a Democrat in office, and I don't think that is going to happen. Last time gas was that cheap and our national budget was balanced was when a Dem. was in office, and this from someone who  used to be Republican, I decided I didn't want to be one anymore when Mr. Bush ran in 2000, looking back now, I can't understand what the h**l I was thinking registering Republican in the first place. 

How come there are no economists behind this scheme?

Lets see...
The fed tax is removed to spur demand.
Demand spikes, and the supply cant keep up.
Stations raise prices to offset demand.
Demand still cant keep up.
Tax holiday ends and tax is now placed on hugely inflated gas prices,
Gas now $5/gal.
Winner:  Big energy.
 
Spurring more demand for gas is like dangling Heroin in front of a drug addict.
Nice plan for our country's future.
Lets just say no.
