    English only Bill

The House approved a measure Wednesday declaring English as the state's official language. The proposed constitutional change, which now goes to the Senate, would be referred to a vote of the people this fall.

Senate Bill 163 was approved, 70-28, after more than 1 1/2 hours of discussion.

The biggest impact of the measure would be that driverµs license examinations could no longer be provided in Spanish. The Legislature had passed a law several years ago allowing the tests in Spanish.

Rep. Randy Terrill, R-Moore, who sponsored the bill, said earlier, "Being able to read and write in English is critical, particularly when we are talking about driving."

    Re: English only Bill

This kills me that this has had to be a "bill" passed in Oklahoma or in American period! Honestly, I've been to Mexico, I know why they want to come to America, but do it legally and do it right.  Learn English, pay taxes, and be citizens. That's all we ask!
