There is no such thing as "bad apples", police are the same everywhere. It's just the nature of the profession.

TAHLEQUAH - A former law officer who is awaiting federal sentencing for extorting cash during traffic stops has now been accused of impersonating a police officer during a float trip on the Illinois River.
Mykol Travis Brookshire, 38, of Eufala, a former McIntosh County undersheriff who pleaded guilty in June to a federal felony charge, was charged Tuesday in Cherokee County District Court with one misdemeanor count of impersonating a police officer.
The alleged incident occurred June 27 on the Illinois River when a ranger with the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission responded to a call about a female on a raft who was possibly intoxicated, according to a police affidavit.
The ranger, Matt Young, found the group of rafters, of which Brookshire was a part, and proceeded to arrest an 18-year-old woman for public intoxication.
He said he took Brookshire to his patrol truck and was going to write him a citation for furnishing alcohol to someone younger than 21 when Brookshire reportedly told him that he was the McIntosh County undersheriff.
Brookshire had already resigned the position, however. He then reportedly asked Young for “professional courtesy” and for him to release the woman to his care.
Young declined and transported the woman to Cherokee County Jail.
A warrant was issued Tuesday for Brookshire’s arrest. Bond was set at $2,500.
Brookshire and ex-McIntosh County Sheriff Terry Alan Jones each pleaded guilty in federal court in June to one felony count of conspiracy

to interfere with interstate commerce under color of law.
The pair admitted extorting about $12,000 cash from motorists during traffic stops over a 19-month period, splitting the proceeds for personal gain.

Police Brutality is deffinately a crime. However, we all need to remember that unless you have walked in the shoes of Law Enforcement then we should hesitate to judge. Every police dept. or law enforcement agency is going to have their "bad apples", just as we have our "bad apples" at our jobs. I believe that we as Oklahomans are fortunate to have agencies that are founded on integrity and professionalism. I think its humerous when a video surfaces and is placed on t.v. for all of us to judge, when most of us are not nor have ever been in law enforcement, and especially DO NOT have degrees in law. A large majority of these men keep our society from anarchy and total recklessness. They place themselve's in harms way every day and sacrifice their personal life for our safety. They stalk our streets 24 hrs. a day in an attempt to make our world a little safer. It is our duty as citizens to allow these men to do their jobs. It sounds like to me that many of you are oblivious of the true intent of law enforcement and might need to take a closer look at the "BIG PICTURE"! Do you people really believe that child molesters, rapists, and yes even muderers are not among us daily? I promise you that they are, and believe it or not many of the men and women inside our State's prison system were caught due to "safety check points" and "routine traffic stops"! If you don't believe me drive to "BIG MAC" and ask some those monsters how they were caught!

I have tried to defend Oklahoma amongst my Northern Brethern. After two years I have given up because of crap like this. Oklahoma isn't to far off of 1920's Mississippi.

Fox23 did a story on the OHP trooper that beat up a handcuffed woman, but it's nowhere on the website. But here's the story from the paper:

The beating happened in November, but OHP is just now talking about it. Apparently the trooper was so bad that fellow troopers had to turn him in. OHP has decided dashcam video, which they freely show when it would embarrass a civilian, is "not public record" when it involves misconduct of one of their own.

Now the icing on the cake: The day after they acknowledged the woman was beat up, they stage a photo-op "safety" checkpoint where they set up roadblocks to stop people at random to see what they can be ticked for.
If course its under the pretense of safety -- safety that goes right into their pockets as "administrative fees".

Are they that high on themselves (having gotten their jobs through political patronage in the first place) that they just dont see the arrogance of this?
Like the guy that thought it would be neat to buzz Air Force One over NYC, whoever dreamed up this publicity stunt should also resign.

...and the trooper who beat up the woman should loose his CLEET certificate so he cant be a cop in some other unsuspecting town again.

addendum: They maced and beat him with a police baton, Then left him behind a squad car unsupervised? What is police procedure when you use physical force on a guy? This should be at least a manslaughter conviction instead of paid vacation.

You have to remember that the victim"was on drugs" according to the officers.
Not only are they not trained in handling of human life,,but when did they become doctors?
If you think that one of them performed CPR on the victim think again"he was on drugs".
Maybe someone can U-TUBE that.Anyone witness that are only lying.

If you need a little RR time take notice,,kill someone.

I have bashed our boys in blue enough. But I do know this, TPD are not adequately trained in dealing with people. They are over-zealous in using measures to subdue there victims.
I'll bet they sprayed a lot of Mace in his throat, killing him. What scares me is this statement.
"Police officers sat the man down next to a patrol car. A short time later, they noticed he was not breathing."

So this means he was actually unsecured, they weren't paying attention, and by the time they decided to check on him he was dead.

This also leads me to deduce that they didn't know what they were doing as the guy must have been in some kind of distress.

Now I don't know how many showed up, but the norm for a traffic ticket is 4 (fox video on this has at LEAST 7) . No one could tell something was amiss?

The Fox video also says that they used a police baton. I bet the police were using this guy to Audition as a drummer for a rock band.

This we do know,every time the police show up and murder someone they scream "they were on drugs".
I know people that take drugs,I work in a pharmacy where you see all the drug addicts with their prescriptions.This where the real drug abusers are.Maybe I will call the police,some of them need to be put out of their misery.
