Just got back from NY. Drove all over South Central and the Finger lakes area. Sure was nice driving on smooth, flat roads with no pot holes.

But I have to be honest for a moment and say "Thank God I am back in Tulsa". You see, sitting in vehicle from Tulsa to NY, then Driving around NY really hurt my back. I must have been in a car for 3,000 miles in 7 days.

It sure was nice pulling into Tulsa where the vibrations from the roads got the kinks out of my back! Go Tulsa!

ok did i dream this or what / when they wanted to get the arkansas river thing passed they had a forum of people to pro and con.

A young student had studied all the figures from union or somewhere and he said there was no way they could pull this off when we needed the streets done.

A city official said "we have a special fund set back for the road and streets and this will not impact it" Hello did anyone hear that other than me?

Tulsa, i dont care if we have the nice shiney BOK center we will never be where we need to be with economy and such. the last baby boomers were not raised as hard workers but what can they get from their folks. It woudl be a nice thought but all of work is going over seas and people dont appreciate a small amout of money for work but want it all.

We need to appreciate what we have and not loose our jobs to overseas.

New City Streets Proposal

So the city is supposed to vote on one of the two street proposals tonight, they keep pushing it back. Both would raise taxes and property taxes. `st question: do you think they will narrow it down to one? 2nd question: would you vote for either in November to fix our roads?

No more asphalt streets??

Well the price of asphalt is going up considerably, some asphalt companies dont make certain types of asphalt cuz of how much oil it requires.

soooo cuz of gas prices going up, asphalt usually goes up.....concrete streets in the far future maybe???

"Jordan Newman says he really doesn't have anything nice to say about a suggestion made by the assistant U.S. Secretary of Transportation that would add toll roads may be the *only way to pay for new roads.

"I would say it's pretty much taking the city hostage. We already don't have good public transportation here in Tulsa."

Just returned from Florida. We missed the pot holes. There are ZERO in Florida.

Can the city of Tulsa be sued for damaging our new cars due to dangerous conditions on the roads?

We noticed in Florida, they begin repairing roads BEFORE the pot holes appear. No such thing as "patching", they resurface the area with new asphalt BEFORE real problems occur.

Why does Tulsa settle with $10,000. fines the casinos pay out as a penalty for not paying out 30% of thier profits???? The penalty should be $100,000. and then perhaps the citizens could benefit by better roads.

Of course the casino''s prefer to pay the small penalty because it is f ar less than the 30% payouts. WAKE UP

What is up with the road crews hammering and pounding and making noise all hours of the night on highway 169 and 41st? We live in Silvercreek apartments, which is located next to the highway. We are losing sleep because of the noise!!!

Expressway Lights

but I think we were still left with the false assumption that the only way an expressway can be safe is if it's lit from one end to another.

Something were overlooking (and what I suspect the Public Works guy was trying to point out) is that Tulsa is in the minority when it comes to the expensive practice of lighting entire expressways.
Most cities (and our own state Department of Transportation) use what is known as "Interchange-Only" lighting, where things like on- and off-ramps are lit, as well as any dangerous curves or features that require increased driver attention. The rest of the roadway is unlit, with well-maintained reflective markings to guide traffic.

Tulsa, however, uses "Continuous Lighting" in which every inch of expressway is lit.
The fact that Tulsans have become accustomed to this is one reason we maintain the perception that anything less is dangerous, despite any evidence from highway safety studies to support that myth.

Besides being more affordable and easier to maintain, there are a number of other reasons Interchange-Only lighting is better in the long run than Continuous Lighting.
The former method serves to draw your attention to potential hazards better, by illuminating only those areas that require more driver attentiveness. A mostly unlit expressway is also less likely to lull pedestrians into a false sense of security, and encourage them to use lighted overpasses rather than leap across high-speed traffic (believing they can be seen in time for drivers to react).
A young man died last weekend in just this way, as have countless others before him crossing brightly-lighted expressways as if they were Main Street.

When you stop to think about it, the vast majority of roads and highways across the US do not have Continuous Illumination and yet are safer even at much greater speeds than Tulsa's lavishly illuminated expressways. We should be learning something from that, and spending more money on maintaining reflectors and proper lane markings instead of the ever-increasing costs of electric lighting.

Lighting just our interchanges and ramps is the proper way to be spending our money and keeping those expressways safe.

Fixing Oklahoma Roads With Education Money

There's a proposal that would create 50-million dollars a year for the Department of Transportation to fix roads and bridges...the catch is, the billl would create a shortage in the state's Education Fund. Oklahoma has to choose between good roads and good education. What do you think?

Store rebates

Store rebates

One of the best Ideas I have heard in a long time. Since the stores advertise their prices with the after rebate price, the store should be responsible for filling out all the paper work and waiting 6 to 10 weeks for the rebate money. NOT US!!! Manufactures make billions of dollars a year off the people who don’t fill out the forms. I believe they are trying to get a state law passed in California to put a stop to that and make the stores responsible for the rebate.

Hope someone here in Oklahoma can get that done.....
