The six pistons in the Air Car's engine are pushed by compressed air rather than gasoline combustion, an idea developed by F1 race car engineer Guy Negre. The car carries a compressor, making it possible to fill its compressed air tank by plugging it into an electrical outlet. At low speeds, the engine is cranked solely by air from the tank. At high speeds, it uses gasoline to heat a chamber, giving the air pushing the pistons more pressure. In high speed mode, it also compresses air to inject into the cylinders. According to its initial, estimated, specifications the Air Car will go 848 miles on an 8 gallon tank of gas. The size of the compressed air tank isn't included in the specifications. Further, the car has a top speed of 96 mph, with its power plant putting out 75 horsepower. When traveling at low speeds, the car has zero emissions, while in high speed mode it has some emissions because of its use of gasoline. <CLIP>

It's called an Ariel Atom, they are street legal and cost around $30,000. I was pretty impressed with them, most of them ran a 220 hp engine but some them had a Honda engine that put out 300 hp and when you kicked in the supercharger it kicked it up to 500 hp.

Here's their website: http://www.arielatom.com

MORE PICTURES------> CLICK HERE

Toy Runs

Here's some pictures I took at the Coweta Toy Run and the Tulsa Toy Run this weekend.
I'd kind of like to bring to light the safety issues that we face from people in cars (we call 'em cagers). Maybe I should first shed some light on why I'm posting this:

Two years ago, my husband was killed in a motorcycle accident. He did what they call a lowside where your bike sort of slides out from under you, and he and his bike slid into oncoming traffic where both were struck by an oncoming Ford Ranger pick up. He died shortly after the impact. He left behind me and 3 beautiful kids. He ALWAYS wore his gear (helmet, gloves, boots, jacket, and most usually pants). Unfortunately, in this case, gear wouldn't have saved him no matter what. But he always preached the gospel of gear and how hit saved him time and time again in crashes he had while racing, and I feel that the best way to honor his memory is to try and start a campaign to increase motorcycle awareness and gear safety.

So, even though the season for riding is over pretty much, I'd like to get started now. I appeared on another news station a year ago to try and boost the safey issue, I've sent emails to all the stations, yet only one replied back. I haven't tried to contact our Mayor to see if I couldn't get at least a week dedicated to the safety of bikers. Michigan dedicates an entire month!

First off, it's hard to judge how fast a bike is going, so giving them time to pass is probably best. Watch for them in parking lots, I remember a couple getting killed in a parking lot because a person driving a car neglected to see them ("I didn't see them" is what's most commonly said after a car hits a bike). Please, slow down in parking lots and gas stations, please!

Double check your blind spots before changing lanes, and USE YOUR TURN SIGNALS! I know we all look like hooligans in our bright colored gear and helmets and bikes, but most of it is for safety! We want to be as visible as possible! Again, judging the speed of a bike is hard, so allow some time for them to get around you. Double check at stopsigns and 4 ways. A couple of seconds isn't going to make you late, but an accident whether it be with a bike or not will.

I know you've seen the "stunters" going down the road on one wheel or doing something else quite reckless....I'd like to say that not all of us do that and most of us prefer to mind the law and keep it on two wheels and keep our speed within reasonable limits. I'd appologize for the stupidity of such persons, but you can't help stupid. There's been several people I know killed because of speed or stunts on the highway, and I assure you, we prefer to do those things in a controlled enviroment. Hallett has a race track that puts on lapping days, most of us get our fill of speed there. It's free to watch if you'd ever be intrested just post up and I'd gladly give directions and all.

It's not always the drivers fault when there's been an accident with a bike. I know a few times the rider of the bike was at fault and they got what they deserved. But most of the time it is the driver that "didn't see" the bike, even when the bike is at a dead stop at a stopsign or left turn lane and the car barrels right into them. Please be aware of your surroundings.

Lastly, and I'll post up more as I think of them, please please please understand that not all sportbikes and the riders that ride them are hooligans. We try to respect you, please respect us.
