This week, it was now time to stop talking and begin walking!
Sloan (my running trainer) began my week with a mile walk on the track at the Health Zone to build up the condition of my feet. These feet really haven't done any major pounding in 15 years! But the first step to being able to run a 5K was to start movin'.
I found myself walking about a minute and a half lap on the track w/ 12 laps being a mile. It felt pretty good, with just a few places on my foot and ankle being sore afterwards. With some good tunes and motivation, the laps went smoothly and I was proud to have completed my first task.
On Tuesday, I went to see my podiatrist and told him what I was working toward. After inspecting my feet, he informed me that my feet had almost NO padding and that I needed extremely good conditioned in-soles in my shoes. He also looked at my new shoes from Runners World and said they were exactly the right kind of shoe for my feet! Yeah! Back to Runner's World we went, with "equipment" needs in hand. Once again, they had me try several types of cushioned insoles until we found the perfect one. Ahhhhh!
Wednesday and Friday we increased our walking by a half mile each day. By the end of the week we were successfully completing 2 miles and ready for more! On Sunday, Sloan and I are meeting at the Health Zone to begin learning the mechanics of running! Hold on tight! Let the fun begin!
