    Thank-you Tulsa Zoo

The other day I had a very sick Squirrel outside of my house. He was sick enough to were I could grab it, but alive enough to fend me off if I was stupid enough to try. I called animal control and quickly found out they were associated with the city police dept (*&$%#!). I explained the situation and explained there were kids and pets all around as this is a residential neighborhood. They said they would be right on it.

Apparently the TPD looked at a map and found out there wasn't a QuickTrip nearby and called me back. They were to busy. I was informed I could go about 12 blocks away and borrow an animal trap for a $25.00 deposit.

My next option was to go outback and open fire. Being a New Yorker, I realized this was retarded as TPD would show up. It wouldn't be the cops that refuse to get out of the car as they are stuck in it for the day because there over weight. It would be the ones that would chase me down.

I called Tulsa Zoo. This particular Zoo is peculiar. If you go during the week day, they have lonely volunteers that love to talk and don't have friends. If they catch you (and they do) they tell you all about the animals, the zoo, the habitats, the history of the zoo, etc. It is actually a fun time to go as you really learn a lot. If you want to learn about Zoo Horrors, ask what happens if a wild animal gets in a cage. You will run out screaming with your hands over your ears going, "TMI, TMI, TMI".

Where was I? Oh yeah. I was banking that the staff was just as, if not, way more knowledgeable than the volunteers, so I left a message of my dilemma. Sure shooting, I got a call back within 10 minutes from a gentleman. I was darn near a vet by the time he was done, figured out he wasn’t contagious and how to deal with the situation safely for all concerned.

So Thank-You, Tulsa Zoo for giving me enough information to deal with a situation and helping me to determine if it was a danger to anything else!

    Re: Thank-you Tulsa Zoo

They said cook it with Green peppers and Onions. (sorry)

    A. If you think your quick enough, Put on some really thick gloves and toss him into a 30 + gallon trash can. If it's just dazed (Fell out of a tree), it'll get out. If it's sick, it will stay in the can.

    B. Lay the Garbage can on the side, get a shovel and do a Wayne Gretzky, this is better as you won't get bit.

Now, if the Squirrel went from eating nuts, to going nuts and escapes, problem solved.

If he is sick, you have a few choices.

    A. Leave him in the garbage can until he dies on his own. This way he doesn't crawl under the house and stinks up the place.

    B. Put it out of it's misery. Now you have choices.
    1. Use a gun and risk the police.
    2. Get a big brick or rock, crush its head.
    3. (What I did as I have sword experience and an old sword), A quick swipe and I decapitated it.

I then took him out back and buried him. Another suggestion he made if you CAN'T bury it, is wrap it in a few garbage bags and toss him the trash.

Squirrels, BTW, have a slim chance to none of catching rabies. This was my main concern.

    Sounds like good advice.

As far as rabies goes .. I knew a man who was swimming in his pool floating on his back in a resting position when he felt something on the swim glove he was wearing.  Evidently a bat thought the webbed swim glove he was wearing was another bat, so it tried to attack it!  LOL  He got a small bat bite on one finger as he shook his hand.  Have you ever had to take rabies shots?  He did.  Had to take the entire series of shots JUST IN CASE that bat had rabies.
