I dunno... Nixon put a cap on it.. Bush won't do that because he's a fat oil man. Who knows. I'm suprised the candidates aren't addressing it more.

Costing me over 50 a week for gas alone, think I would be better off  to take a job paying less but closer to home, getting so I curse Bush everytime I go to the gas pumps,only part of that is due to gas prices, the rest is the freedoms he has taken from us. I am ready to revolt, just give me a cause and a crew and I am out of here. 

The gas prices are so bad that my dad traded two perfectly nice trucks -- a Jeep Liberty that was plush, and a Ford Ranger that was pretty nice, too -- for one little Scion, just to save on gas.  When we plan to go to a dog show, most of our budget is set aside for gas, and we only get hotel rooms or fast food dinners if we're lucky.  Its crippling.  I can only imagine what it does for the economy.  When we were in Texas this last weekend, we saw prices as high as $3.55.  I worked at a gas station for almost 4 years, and I remember when people were first pitching a fit that gas went up to $1.52.  When I first started driving, that summer gas was $.72 a gallon, and it was lovely.  I've heard it supposed to start coming down by the end of the year, but what about in the meantime?

I hear ya lindsey... I go to these historical events with the SCA. This weekend the camping trip is 8 hours away. We are carpooling with other people and even splitting the cost of gas it is expensive. They are sending out these checks to stimulate the economy. If they really want to stimulate it they need to drop the price of gas by about 1.50 and then people will get out and do stuff again.

Exactly, Tega.  Its been some years since we've had a family vacation.  My mom and I used to go somewhere every summer.  Florida one year, Indiana another year.  Never went west, but wanted to.  I'd love to take a non-dog-show-related road trip with my husband sometime, but at these prices, I just don't see us affording anything longer than a 6-hour trip to St. Louis, and that only because we can stay with family.  Its quite a buzzkill.

The camping trips I go on, the site fees are totally cheap. It's the gas that is killing me. I have to admit I have chopped some of the events I was going to attend just because of that. There were about 4 events this year that were 6 or more hours away and I cut it down to 2.

New York finally figured out my support snafu, And I am getting a little over $4,000 back. I'm bringing my daughter down and her sister for the summer, then going to spend a month back in NY visiting friends and relatives.
So I will have a nice "Vacation".

ride a bike as much as possible, ask your congressman to help, keep talking about it.  conserve in all other ways possible (even if you doubt global warming) every conservation tool they recommend will hit these fat cats in the pocketbook. when you buy a new vehilcle go as green as possible.

I agree, this is just another rip off of the American Citizen.  If you want something to change contact your elected officials and the president to stop paying our oil producers not to drill for oil and to allow them to drill off shore and in Alaska.

We have been sold out to OPEC and those jerks are laughing all the way to the bank.

American citizens and the United States Truckers are marching on Washington Monday, April 28.  Everyone who is unhappy about this needs to contact congress and let them know.

 

It has been written in our constitution that if the government has proven themselves to be a destructive force, then americans have a right to overthrow that government. It's obvious that this administration has taken more steps to actively cripple us than to support us. It will take a radical approach to show washington that this practice is unacceptable.

Do you remember when paying for gas was a non-issue. Do you remember 59 cents per gallon. That to me sounds like a very fair price to pay for gas. If the powers that be refuse to accommodate the needs of the many, than the many must send a hard message to whoever intends to harm us.

To start we demand answers and results of the presidential candidate. If they don't give us the answers we want, then we either don't vote at all or vote for a third party candidate who will jerk a knot in whoever's tail that prevents us from having access to what we deserve. This is the only acceptable answer.

Get real, crying to our elected officials won't do any good.  They don't care.  And, the reason it's outragious is because Bush's time is almost up and he's trying to get as much money as possible in his pockets when he's finally out of office.  That's why the gas prices will cheapen toward the end.
