    Colon Exam

I have this exam coming Monday morning for a last look inside my colon.  This is not the most exciting kind of exam, but if they would of done one three years ago; maybe it would of been polyps instead of exploratory surgery.  Nobody can spin a yarn about this kind of procedure better than Dave Barry did with the Miami Herald:

Do yourself a favor and go ahead with the exam if you are near 50 or over 40 with colon cancer in your family history.

    Re: Colon Exam

Brian is so funny when he is under anesthesia...This time he didn't sing to the Dr.  On the way home he asked me about 15 times what were the results.  I answered every single time!  He will probably wake up in a few hours and ask me again.  I should have him read this!

The colonoscopy showed a small polyp (8mm), probably benign.  The Dr. removed it and sent it for testing.  We will know the path results Wednesday or Thursday.

Remember, the node in question is approximately 12 mm (1.2 cm) and is part of an aggregate that is approx. 25 mm.

So, my non-medical opinion is that the colonoscopy showed a benign polyp and now we have to have a surgery to explore the outside of the cecum area, where the colonoscopy doesn't show.  When will this surgery be scheduled?  I guess we will know Wednesday or Thursday.

Yeah.  Everybody gets a little crazy when they are under.  After the first surgery I was singing Yellow Submarine.  (Classic movie if you have never seen it.  Clean too.)  Today I don't remember much other than being wheeled in for the procedure and eating some breakfast much  later on and getting some rest at home.  It is wise not to make any decisions right after a procedure such as this.  You might not even consider a haircut.

We did go for a walk after dinner.  It was a perfect evening to do so too.

The polyp pathology did come back benign.  Thank the Lord!  Still waiting on the surgery to find the lymph node involvment.

Brian's surgery is scheduled for May 29.  Will keep you posted.  This just happens to be the last day of school and my birthday.  So, my birthday wish is that the path report come back as benign as the colon polyp.  I can tell it to you now and it can still come true because my cake is not in front of me with candles blazing waiting for me to blow them out.

    Re: Colon Exam

I just read the Dave Barry piece.  Very funny, and instructive.  Thanks.  I turned 50 last November.  I've had the pre-procedure visit with the doctor and will have the colonscopy in early July.  No colon cancer history in my family, but my sister died from *** cancer, so I know I need to be vigilant.

    Good luck Brian.
