All this iStuff sounded like an Apple-only discussion and I initially overlooked it, but...
It's not uncommon to find aftermarket car stereos with a USB connection nowadays. You can plug an MP3 player (including ipod) and use your car stereo to navigate your records, or just load up your music onto a thumb drive (USB Flash Memory Drive for purists) and tuck your portable device safely away from burglars.
I got one similar to this one

to replace a favorite Sony with 10 front panel presets (that but the dust).
Out of the car, my MP3 player is my mobile phone, so I have my MP3 music without having to deal with iTunes or any proprietary BS from apple.
