Why won't witnesses to crimes like hit and run and robberies?burglaries come forward?
The story of the man shot 5 times, and the pregnant lady run over at the bus stop really stops me in my tracks. I cannot believe people care so little or are so afraid they won't speak up when they see another human being savagely attacked and often destroyed. The man knows who shot him, and someone saw that car veer off the road to run over that pregnant girl. What is wrong with people? Do they think they are somehow helping the police personally if they speak up? Are they really willing to take the chance on their loved ones being the next target rather than speaking to the cops? You don't have to like the police, or trust them completely, but should'nt you at least like and trust them more than the cold blooded psychopathic loonies who are out there to hurt you and your family? If anyone has any enlightenment on how people can sleep or look at themselves in the mirror after witnessing these crimes and not helping the families of these victims, could you please tell me so I will understand. SHAME ON YOU COWARDS, " he who does not try to stop injustice will become it's next target."

From my understanding, the guy that was shot 5 times, it was his sister that let the person in that shot him. My question is!, why doesn't the police arrest her for harboring the idenity of the person responsible for shooting her brother? In my situation when my place was shot at, I found out who did it, then I notified the detective that was working the case, he never once returned my call and when the guy (LiL T) was arrested, he was never charged for shooting at my place or for killing the Hispanic. That may be a reason why people don't want to tell the police, since they act like you don't know anything. I still have the part of the bullet that was in my place. The police was more interrested in talking to my daughter as he was looking at her chest. I know it's hard to take their eyes off of my daughter, since she is so beautiful also, but to stare at her chest and disrespect her like that!!!(cricket)

Re: Why won't witnesses to crimes like hit and run and robberies?burglaries come forward?
I get the chest stare, too, cricket. It's annoying, especially when you're looking them in the eye and they are looking 5 inches lower.....then the look on their face when you know they know you know what they were looking at. Some have no shame, others have a little, then there's the ones that actually look away and blush.
Example with the police: I got pulled over one night as I was headed out for a night out on the town, so I was dressed nicely, and I was sporting just a hint of clevage. I have my seatbelt on, and as any woman can tell you, those just make it worse. So, he walks to the window, takes a peak and asks me the usual, license insurance, how fast was I going (apparently faster than posted speed limit or else I wouldn't be talking to you), and then he says....and this is the god's honest truth...."Heading out for some fun? If I wasn't working, I'd definitely love to be at where you're going" Creepy much? Of course he let me go, and I thought about reporting him, but it was such a ridiculous encounter I didn't think anyone would believe me! He had no shame, and after a while I found it funny, and it makes for a good anecdote!
Back to topic at hand: I still think people just don't want to be involved. And if it's a violent crime, they fear retaliation. Not in crickets case though, thankfully. Shame the cops didn't follow up on your call. And bigger shame on them for disrespecting your daughter...and you for that matter!

Why is it if a human is hit by a car, no one stops, but if its an animal it's immediately taken to the hospital?
I think the internet and t.v. has a lot to do with it. You here all the horror stories about the victims, police, the courts, etc. Is it worth the hassle?

You should watch "The Human Behavior Experiments" if it comes back on T.V. Or go here. This is just a small snippet from it ........ "Latane and Rodin offered two explanations for a bystander's
hesitance to intervene when he is with someone else: "social influence"
(each bystander may hide his uncertainty about what to do by trying to
appear poised; the other bystander is thus encouraged to believe the
situation is not serious) and "diffusion of responsibility" (if a
bystander turns out to be wrong in not acting, at least he shares the
responsibility). Friends may be less likely to hide their feelings or
put their responsibility off on each other. The results of the
experiment may explain why large cities seem less safe than small
towns. There are too many strangers in cities. "If you are involved in
an emergency," concluded Latane and Rodin, "the best number of
bystanders is one."

If any bad guys are out there reading this, Understand one thing: I may not like TPD, I may not have faith in TPD, You may have a big old gun and threaten me with it, but IF I SEE YOU COMMIT A CRIME I WILL CALL POLICE, I HAVE SPENT YEARS TRAINING AND WORKING IN A FIELD THAT REQUIRES ME TO BE SOMEWHAT OF A PROFESSIONAL OBSERVER, I WILL GIVE THEM YOUR DISCRIPTION,CAR MAKE, MODEL, COLOR, TAG, BRAND OF CLOTHING YOU ARE WEARING, WHICH HAND YOU WRITE WITH AND WHETHER OR NOT YOU BRUSHED YOUR TEETH THAT DAY, I am old, had a good life, and I have no wish to live forever,I am not afraid of your threats, so don't let me see you hurt someone, because if the police won't listen to me, I will call the sheriffs dept and anyone else I need to after that, BUT REST ASSURED, I WILL CONTACT LAW ENFORCEMENT AND REPORT YOU.

I could'nt believe when channel 23 had the poll asking if you see a crime committed, would you report it, I believe about 10% said they would, I was appalled then and I am appalled now.I guess I grew up in an era when things were different and most people actually cared if the general public was sane, law abiding people. Well, that is over is'nt it?

Re: Why won't witnesses to crimes like hit and run and robberies?burglaries come forward?
Here's a couple things to ponder also. Believe it or not, I am going to be talking about the Tulsa P.D. for referance, but today I will not pick on them, this is happening everywhere.
In 2007 we had two people killed under the "Make my day law". Even though justified, the law worked against them and they where tried (or going to be, News stories has a tendancy to get you completely interested in something then take a commercial break for 20 years). Maybe Fox23 can do an "AfterFox" series, once a month do a complete "foul up of evenets" (Yes, I spelled it that way on purpose).
Also a cop was having an issue with a suspect and asked a bystander for assistance. The bystander didn't do as requested and was promptly arrested.
I think when people get indunuated with stories like this, they get nervous and try for the easy way out.

Re: Why won't witnesses to crimes like hit and run and robberies?burglaries come forward?
I think people feel that basically anything is ok as long as it does'nt involve them. People are mesmerized by their own images, it is all about them. Americans are the only people in the world whose personal comfort zone is almost 3 feet. Tells you something, we like to feel and appear philantropic, that is why our charities do so well, we will give a few hundred to help the needy because it makes us feel good, but won't stop to help a dying person, or a hoodlum from taking an old ladies purse, a rape, a woman or child being abused even when we hear it and know what is going on. We have become shell people. Sad. Sad Sad

Tinuviel_33. thank you so much for your kindness.. Yes, I could tell you other things about the so-called-TPD, but it's a lost cause. Women aren't safe around most TPD"S since they are a bunch of Whor* mongers, or cruel! If the cop likes what he sees, then he is really kind, other than that, I've seen where they treat people very badly, like the time this girl left her child alone in a vacant apt. tried to run over the babies dad with someone else's car, no D.L., no INS. but she wore a skimpy show everything outfit, and the cops let her drive off, no citation or anything, after she drove off one of the cops followed her, and had his fun with her, her boyfriend caught them. (I'm being nice on this one). It's a shame for women to have especially a cop to look at you in a way they do, but they can get by with it, because they use the badge in their favor. It sure would be funny if you would have time to blow up some balloons and stuff them, before a cop pulls you over, then while he's staring, pop the balloon and watch his face, the joke would be on him.LOL!!!! Re: Why won't witnesses to crimes like hit and run and robberies?burglaries come forward?
Ha ha.. this thread went a different direction didn't it? It reminded me of a trip to Alabama with my kids a few years ago. It was summer, I had a light T-shirt on that did sport some clevage. No big deal. Got pulled over because my trunk wasn't closed all the way. It was dark. Officer pervert came to the window. I rolled it down and he shined his flashlight first at my daughter in the backseat, then my son next to me. THEN he shined it and left it right on my boobs. He asked a few questions never once looking me in the eyes. As he walks away, my daughter (who was about 10 at the time) pipes up and says "Mom! He was looking at your rack!" I could have died.

Re: Why won't witnesses to crimes like hit and run and robberies?burglaries come forward?
Had a friend a few years ago who was stopped on a routine (night) traffic stop due to a dirty tag, the cop did'nt appreciate it when she told him her tag was dirty because lived on a dirt road, so he pulled her out of the car and frisked her right in front of her son, really taking liberties if you know what I mean. She tried to get someone to do something about it, but no one cared,( same Chief of police) I am sure the same officer is still on the job fondling other women.

Re: Why won't witnesses to crimes like hit and run and robberies?burglaries come forward?
I would have said something. Also, any cop did that to me would get any extra visit later. I've delt with crooked cops before and they no longer work on the force after I've had my dealing with them. Usually, it's because after my incident people come forward and cops are dissmissed. Happens a lot in small towns. Now, I live in a different town and I must say that so far I'm quite pleases with the cops around here. Even if it takes em 15 minutes to get to my house(no law in my town, have to rely on county), they are very thorough and do their job. So far so good I have no complaints.

Re: Why won't witnesses to crimes like hit and run and robberies?burglaries come forward?
Some people don't come forward due to the fact, they may already have dealings with the police department, possibly a warrant! Possibly aren't paying attention to the surroundings. Some people give different discriptions to different situations, that can cause the police confussions. Someone could be wearing blue jeans, and a witness may say, they were wearing black pants, or one may say the person was 5'11, where another may say the person was 5'5. that can mess up a discription of a person. Another person could say the person was a mexican, and the person could have been a light skinned black person. (cricket)
