    trash

There was recently an article in the Tulsa World (July 1, 2007 ; Opinion Section ; Battling the Bottle) regarding the issue of filling up the landfills with plastic bottles.  My question is if we are so concerned about the water bottles filling up landfills then why did the City of Tulsa decide not to renew their contract with the trash to energy plant in West Tulsa, instead they chose to dump all the trash into the landfill.  It seems to me that Tulsa citizens would benefit more from recycling the trash to energy, especially since we know that it take 100 or 1000 of years for this trash to break down, and taxpayers paid so much to have the recycling trash plant to be built (which is now closing as a direct result of the City's actions).

    Re: trash

I agree totally I cannot believe that a city would opt to put the city's trash in a land fill when we the people voted in to build that trash to energy plant to avoid just that. It appears to me that our Mayor does not care about our environment or conservation only making the city money when it means putting all of that trash into our ground. We voted in the plant we should have had a vote on weather to keep it or not. In this day and age you would not even think it a question on weather to turn our trash into energy or put it in the ground.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what is going to happen. I am sure they do not monitor the poisons and hazardous waist that people put into their trash that is going to end up in our land and our ground water. It seems that our Mayor is so money hungry that our environment does not mean a thing only the making of money. I feel that we should have a voice in this, we did when it was being built and I am sure with all of the increase and concern in the environment that we would not have choosen the landfill. I have been to a landfill and even though they say do not dump this or that  they do not monitor what is exactly dumped. There were bottles of antifreeze and other hazardous materials, tires ect..... and that is what is going to happen here. They are not going to go thru those trash bags to check for hazardous materials.

Mayor Kathy Taylor is 100% accountant.

For a short term budget, it's good.....for humanity and this earth, it's sad.

    Re: trash

your are correct. She has no long term vision for the city. It's all about what she can do d to look good now and no thought as to maintaining or improving the city for the future.  A nightmare in high heels.
