HOT TOPIC: The passage of Prop. 8

In the last few months the US has seen so many hot issues from the Presidential election, the Wall Street crisis, and loss of jobs.  In several states similar propositions passed as Proposition 8 in California.  What are your thoughts on yet another hot issue that our country is facing now, and will face in the near future?

Decisions by voters in Florida, Arizona and California to join residents of 27 other states with constitutional protections for traditional marriage have prompted threats of violence against Christians and their churches.

"Burn their ****** churches to the ground, and then tax the charred timbers," wrote "World O Jeff" on the JoeMyGod blogspot today within hours of California officials declaring Proposition 8 had been approved by a margin of 52 percent to 48 percent. Confirmation on voter approval of amendments in Florida and Arizona came earlier.

The amendments in all three states essentially limit marriage to one man and one woman. In California, the measure states the only marriages "valid and recognized" in the state are those between one man and one woman.

Thirty states now have adopted marriage amendments. However, in California, the vitriol appeared especially high since the state Supreme Court in May created same-sex marriage for homosexuals. Proposition 8 overruled the court decision, readopting the marriage definition California votersadopted in 2000.

I think that if people are so bored they have to worry about what others are doing with their private lives they need to get a life themselves. I say let someone marry whoever the hell they want to marry. We have more important things to worry about.

Far from being religious, I still think Marriage is a religious rite between man and woman and should stay that way. Nothing against gays but we need to stop changing laws for the few. If allowed you will see more litigation against churches if they decide not to marry gay couples do to there beliefs, and gays forcing there beliefs on everyone.

What you do in your house, is your business. If you take it out of the house your making it everyone else's business and they do not need to know.

For the sake of discussion ... the following points:

    1.  Gays can marry just like everyone else: someone of the opposite sex.

    2. "Let someone marry whoever they want".... : In some foreign countries, people can marry their farm animals.

    Thoughts?

Your point about litigation against churches sounds like it could be a real possibility if this issue is not settled as marriage being between a man and woman.

Exactly. First it was the parades. We had to have a Gay float (Though they didn't fight for a virginity, S&m, Bestially, Etc) Float. I actually watched the first gay float with a gay friend. Her words, "This is why I stay in the Closet".

Now it's Marriage, it won't stop. I think Insurance should have a "Couples" insurance, Though that will open up a new can of worms with college kids.

What it boils down to, is one group is getting more privileges than the other. I was brought up with "Majority Rules".
