House OKs $50B to fight global AIDS, diseases

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House voted Wednesday to triple to more than $10 billion a year U.S. humanitarian spending on fighting AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis in Africa and other stricken areas of the world.

About $41 billion of the $50 billion over five years would be devoted to AIDS, significantly expanding a program credited with saving more than 1 million lives in Africa alone in the largest U.S. investment ever against a single disease.

Every day another 6,000 people are infected with the HIV virus, said House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Howard Berman, D-Calif. "We have a moral imperative to act and to act decisively," he said.

The House voted 308-116 to extend and broaden the scope of the $15 billion President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief that President Bush promoted and Congress enacted in 2003. It has been hailed as a noteworthy foreign policy success of the Bush presidency.

There goes the rest of our Social Security. I am all for eradicating Aids, but there are plenty of people here with diseases we need to cure(lilke diabetes) What the H*ll is wrong with that idiot, I tried to kill most of my brain cells in the 60s and 70s too,  didn't think I might need them later, but I did manage save a few, course I didn't snort coke, maybe that is the difference. Oh well, what can you expect from a man who ran everything he tried to do into the toilet before he became Prez, he must have cheated to get through college, no way he passed on intelligence.

Anyone know why our country is in so much debt right now.  Don't tell me it's because of the 50 billion dollars we sent to the jungle.  I just won't hear of it, lol.

ARF! ARF!. It would be a HE*l of a lot cheaper to purchase RUBBE*S and tell them to pull up their shorts, instead of pulling them down. Yes, our country has numerous problems here that need to be taken care of.  We have emergencies in health, not only the elderly, but children stricken with CANCER, yes we have Diabetes that is affecting millions of people, young and old, we have severe heart conditions in every age group and so many more situations. But like I said before, Bush will drain us before he leaves office. The government don't give a Rats As* about the people, and I'm starting to feel, they don't even give a Da*n about our country. I don't wish to preach, but all of this is written in our BIBLES. It will get worse, way before it gets better, that is if it does get better. If you've noticed the last couple of elections, how screwed up they were, this one is worse. Iraq is going to attack America when it becomes so weak, not in just money, but man power, weakening of our government and  various  other situations. Just be aware, cause your future is in JEOPARDY. Look how America is confused, the city and state governments are taking matters into their own hands, since the Federal government isn't doing their job, the Congress is confused about passing Bills or not to pass a Bill, where are their heads at?(cricket)

That is my issue with the whole thing. I mean, I am just as willing to help out as the next guy but for gods sake we have people in our own country who need the help. I just think we should be spending it in our own backyard instead of tossing it out to other countries first.

Well, this is what happens when folks elect some rich, spoiled snot who couldn't successfully operate any business without daddy bailing him out, he has no idea how to handle money because he has always had everything handed to him, same for our Mayor. I trust you do see the similarities in what is happening to our country and what is happening in our own city? Idea
